Is Your Dog Ready for the World?
First: Not Every Dog Is Ready for This
Let’s be honest.
Some dogs do not belong at cafés, restaurants, patios, festivals, or public events yet.
A dog is not ready for a restaurant setting if they:
Bark at people, dogs, bikes, servers, or passing cars
Pull hard on leash
Jump on strangers
Scavenge food off the ground
Cannot settle for more than a few seconds
Panic in public spaces
Guard food, space, people, or the table area
React strongly around other dogs
Ignore basic cues once distractions appear
That does not make the dog bad.
It means the dog needs more foundation work before being placed in a high-distraction environment.
A restaurant patio is not where you fix problems.
It is where you test skills that already exist.
